# Appointment Push Notifications in Turnero

> Enable desktop push notifications in Turnero to receive instant alerts for new appointments and patient activity without watching the screen.

Turnero can send desktop push notifications to keep you informed of appointment activity — even when the app is in the background. Notifications are role-specific: doctors are alerted when a new appointment is booked for them, while front-desk staff receive updates when the schedule changes.

## What Triggers a Notification

Turnero sends a push notification based on your role when specific events occur:

**Doctors (Medico)**

* A new appointment is scheduled for your profile — the notification includes your name, a short message, and the appointment date.

**Front-desk staff (Ingreso)**

* An existing appointment is edited and saved.
* A doctor marks a patient as arrived.
* An appointment is deleted.

<Note>
  Doctors are not notified when a patient is marked as arrived — that update goes to front-desk staff, who can track patient arrivals in real time on the appointment table.
</Note>

## Enabling Notifications

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install or open Turnero">
    Install Turnero as a PWA (see [PWA Installation](/features/pwa)) or open it in a supported browser.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Allow notification permissions">
    When prompted by the browser, click **Allow** to grant notification permissions for Turnero.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Re-enable if you missed the prompt">
    If you dismissed the initial prompt, go to your browser's site settings for Turnero and set **Notifications** to **Allow**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm notifications are active">
    Notifications are now active — you'll receive alerts even when Turnero is minimized or running in the background.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Managing Notification Permissions

If you need to change your notification settings after the initial setup, use the instructions for your platform:

* **Chrome / Edge (desktop)**: Click the padlock icon in the address bar → **Notifications** → **Allow**.
* **Android Chrome**: Go to **Settings** → **Site Settings** → **Notifications**, find Turnero in the list, and set it to **Allow**.
* **iOS Safari**: iOS does not support push notifications for PWAs on older versions. Update to **iOS 16.4 or later** for notification support.

<Warning>
  If you accidentally blocked notifications, you must manually re-enable them in your browser or device settings. Turnero cannot override a blocked permission.
</Warning>

<Tip>
  Doctors find notifications most useful during busy clinic days — you know the moment a new appointment is booked for you without needing to check the schedule manually.
